Why bleed matters
Bleed is the extra area of artwork that extends beyond the final trim line. Because cutting and slicing machines are never perfectly precise, printing and exporting right up to the edge risks leaving thin white slivers where the ink or pixels stop short. Adding bleed to every edge guarantees your background runs all the way to the border no matter how the trim lands.
This calculator takes your finished dimensions and the bleed you want per edge, then returns the total canvas size you should build at. The rule is simple β bleed is added to both opposing edges, so the total grows by twice the bleed in each direction. Set up your document at the total size, keep important content inside the safe area, and trim back to the finished size when you're done.
